Maldive Islands or the Maldives, is an island nation comprising a group of atolls in the Indian Ocean. The Maldives is located south of India's Lakshadweep islands, and about 435 miles south-west of Sri Lanka. The twenty-six atolls of Maldives' encompass a territory featuring 1,192 islets, two hundred and fifty islands of which are inhabited.

First Postal service and a temporary set of Postage Stamps commence on 9th September 1906.

The first postage stamp of the Maldives released in May 1909 by the then post master general Sumuvvul Ameer Mohamed Ameen Dhoshimeynakilegefaanu. (yes, that is his full name)
