Christmas Island is an Australian Territory situated in the Indian Ocean

From 1901 to 1942 it was part of the British Straits Settlements colony

From 1946 to 1958 it was part of Singapore and then from 1958 it came under Australian control

Christmas Island remained postally and philatelically independent until 1993 then after this it became part of Australia's Postal system
