Samoa is a country governing the western part of the Samoan Islands in the South Pacific Ocean. It became independent from New Zealand in 1962.

The first postal service, Samoa Express, was organised by C.L. Griffiths. Its primary purpose was that of distribution of the Samoa Times

Mail to overseas destinations was routed via New South Wales, New Zealand or U.S.A. receiving additional franking with stamps of the receiving country on landing
