Penny Blacks
The 1d Black or Penny Black stamp is the most famous stamp in the World.
The Penny Black was the world's first adhesive postage stamp used in a public postal system.
It was first issued in Great Britain, on 1 May 1840, but was not valid for use until 6 May 1840. The stamp features a profile of Queen Victoria.
Penny blacks are not as rare as most people think but it is one of the most collectible stamps because of it's fame.
The 1d Black stamp was printed using 12 different plates. The plate number affects it's value as does the condition, whether it is mint or used and whether the postmark is a red or black Maltese Cross
