Line engraved is a recess-printing process
The early stamps of Queen Victoria used this process.
The stamps included the famous penny black, 2d Blue, penny red, the 1/2d Bantam and the 1 1/2d rose red, issued between 1840 and 1870

These can be mint never hinged (MNH), mounted mint, mint hinged or mint with no gum.
These are stamps that have never been postally used
