Abu Dhabi Stamps

Brief History of Abu Dhabi Postage Stamps

Abu Dhabi is the largest of the Trucial States which now form the United Arab Emirates.

During the late 1800's to early 1900's Postal Services were handled by the British.

In 1963 Abu Dhabi issued it's first stamps. These stamps, initially produced by British printers, depicted local themes such as the coat of arms of Abu Dhabi, the dhow ( a traditional wooden boat), palm trees or crossed daggers.

In 1971 the UAE was formed and the postal system integrated with the Emirates’ postal services.

As Abu Dhabi only had her own stamps for a little over 10 years they are rare and can command high prices
