British Indian Ocean Territory

The British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) is a British Overseas Territory of the situated in the Indian Ocean. The territory comprises the seven atolls of the Chagos Archipeligo with over 1,000 individual islands – many very small – amounting to a total land area of 60 square kilometres

First Stamps issued on 17 January 1968. As the territory was originally part of Mauritius and the Seychelles, these stamps were denominated in Rupees until 1992. However, after that date they were issued in denominations of British Pounds, the official currency of the territory
